Arsenal and Crystal Palace are just two of the clubs aiming to gain the signature of Porto’s Hector Herrera, according to Sport Witness.
The 28-year-old, who shone for Mexico at the World Cup, appears to be running down his contract with the Portuguese giants, leading to many teams vying to capture him on a free transfer next summer.
Portuguese outlet Record report that Herrera could join a host of clubs, from Roma and Inter to Arsenal and Palace. Serie A is reportedly the likely destination for the midfielder, however a Premier League deal is not off the cards, and Gunners’ rivals Tottenham are also known to be showing interest.
Porto’s captain has been a useful part of the near-dominant side this season, losing just once in his 12 games in all competitions. He has also found the net in back-to-back Champions League ties against Lokomotiv Moscow.
The Dragons sit atop of the Primeira Liga, two points clear of foes Sporting Lisbon after ten matches, and look certain to qualify for the CL knockout stages.
Whether Herrera’s current club will renew his contract remains to be seen, but he would certainly be a welcome asset to both Arsenal and Crystal Palace. While both squads have contrasting aspirations, a free transfer for a proven Champions League player and 2012 Olympic gold medallist would be equally impressive and would no doubt add to the strength in-depth come next season.
Nevertheless, a battle with domestic and continental counterparts will ensue for any team wanting to recruit the Mexican.
