Roy Hodgson confirms Julian Speroni will start against Liverpool

CIn his pre-match press conference ahead of the Liverpool game, Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson confirmed that Julian Speroni will be starting at Anfield

It will be Speroni’s first appearance since December 2017, and it comes as a result of an injury crisis.

Vicente Guaita went off injured against Watford, which made it look as if Wayne Hennessey was going to start against Liverpool. Unfortunately for the Premier League strugglers, the Welsh international picked up a quadriceps injury in training this week, which leaves Palace with only their third choice keeper.

Speroni is a cult hero in Croydon and has been a part of the Palace squad since 2004, their first spell in the Premier League under Iain Dowie.

He has not been a regular feature for some time, and their already difficult task at Anfield just got even harder.

Palace are, however, responding to their goalkeeper crisis swiftly, and are on the verge of signing Lucas Perri from Sao Paulo.

Hodgson confirmed in his press conference that it has taken some time to get the loan deal done though, which leaves him with Speroni for at least the next game
