Crystal Palace are hoping to use the sell-on clause in Wilfried Zaha’s contract as a bargaining chip in Manchester United’s pursuit of England U21 star Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
According to reports on the Guardian, both teams have met, and talks over the weekend seem to have resulted in a more realistic offer for Wan-Bissaka. Reports say that there will be another meeting this afternoon to finalise some of the finer details.
The offers put in for Wan-Bissaka have so far been rejected but the hope is that the next one is closer to their £50 million asking price.
If the third offer falls slightly below Palace’s asking price there will be room for bosses to negotiate. Palace have a plan to utilise the sell-on clause that was inserted into Palace’s Wilfried Zaha’s contract when he left United for Palace in January 2015.
The sell-on clause states that United could receive around £15 million if the forward leaves Palace, which is a possibility this summer. Bosses at Palace will be trying to remove or significantly reduce this clause during the negotiations surrounding Wan-Bissaka’s future.
