Crystal Palace are reportedly battling with Aston Villa to sign Republic of Ireland Under-19 international Jonathan Afolabi.
According to a report from Football London, the Eagles have tabled a contract offer for the young forward, who has left Southampton following the end of his deal at St Mary’s Stadium.
Afolabi is believed to be a man in demand this summer. Teams in both Russia and Spain have apparently weighed up moves for him, but Palace are at the front of the queue in the race for his signature.

Roy Hodgson’s forward options heading into next season are somewhat limited despite the permanent signing of Jordan Ayew from Swansea City.
Afolabi turned in a number of impressive displays for Southampton at youth level but reportedly rejected an extended stay at the club as he is keen to secure first-team football elsewhere.
Palace will be confident of tying up a deal for the 19-year-old, but with Aston Villa also interested, they may need to accelerate talks with the player and his representatives.
