James McCarthy would be a good addition to Crystal Palace’s midfield, providing depth and quality in a key area.
Sky Sports News claim that the Eagles are preparing a second bid for the Irishman, having already had one rejected by Everton.
Any move for McCarthy is not thought to be related to Wilfried Zaha’s future, with the Ivorian continuing to be strongly linked with a switch to Goodison Park this summer.

McCarthy would bring steel and underrated ability to Roy Hodgson’s side, as they attempt to fight off any threat of relegation and push for a mid-table finish this season.
Still only 28, the midfielder has overcome a broken leg suffered in 2017/18, which is admittedly a potential downside to Palace moving for him.
Following such a serious injury, there is the threat that a player may not ever quite be the same, but McCarthy is young enough to overcome the issue.
He had a huge reputation as a teenager at Hamilton Academical before joining Wigan Athletic in 2009, highlighting why he could be a shrewd addition for Palace.
