These Palace fans react as Cahill stakes claim for Man United start

Gary Cahill was one of Crystal Palace’s most significant signings of the summer, bringing a wealth of experience to the defence.

The 33-year-old is still awaiting his Eagles debut, but that could arrive away to Manchester United on Saturday.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Cahill says he is desperate to prove his worth at Selhurst Park:

I’ve got a burning desire to win football matches and play consistently well at the highest level, first of all for me and then hopefully I can rub off on the players and staff around me and try and push the club in the right direction.

That’s the pressure I need to put on myself.

I need to be as hungry as ever, which I will be because all I need to do is flip my memory to last year to give me that fire in my belly to perform.

I’m more than ready to go now and I’m looking forward to the season.

These Palace supporters have reacted to Cahill’s quotes on Twitter, with some keen to see him start at Old Trafford this weekend:

Palace have made a poor start to the season, drawing 0-0 at home to Everton before a disappointing 1-0 loss at Sheffield United on Sunday.

Although their defence hasn’t been the biggest issue, bringing in Cahill should only have a positive impact.

He has played at the top level for a number of years, shining for both Chelsea and England.

The veteran’s best days are behind him, but he will still shore up a side currently low on confidence.

United will provide a stern test on Saturday – having Cahill in the side will enhance their chances of causing an upset.
