Palace defender Ryan Inniss, who is spending the season on loan at Newport County has been given a five match ban for biting West Ham youngster Reece Hannam in Newport’s EFL trophy clash with the West Ham U-21s. The 24-year-old who has never made a Premier League appearance for the Eagles, was given an initial, standard three-match ban for violent conduct by the FA, which was later extended to five matches.
An FA statement read:
Ryan Inniss has admitted a breach of FA Rule E3 (1) and been immediately suspended for his next five first team competitive matches by an independent Regulatory Commission.
The punishment however, seems rather leniant when considering Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who was given a 10 match ban following his bite on former Chelsea defender, Branislav Ivanovic, although Suarez is a serial offender, which likely contributed to the hefty punishment.
Speaking soon after the incident, Newport boss Michael Flynn said
Their player said he got bitten, so I’ll have a look at that and find out what happened. If he has, it’s inexcusable and I won’t be fighting his corner.
After reading these comments, it will be interesting to see if Newport decide to further ban their player once he is available for selection again.

This isn’t good to see, and you have to say that the ban is very much deserved.
It is true that emotions can sometimes get the better of a player, but biting someone is very much over the line.
We’ll have to hope the player can learn from his mistakes, and return to the pitch with a new mindset.
