Crystal Palace target Joakim Maehle recently revealed to Belgian news outlet Het Belang van Limburg that he is “itching” to take the next step up in his career, hinting at a possible move to the Premier League.
The KRC Genk right-back has also been linked with a move to fellow top-flight side Southampton in recent months.
As reported on the Evening Standard, the Eagles have been keeping tabs on the full-back for a long time and considered signing him in the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old featured in this year’s UEFA Champions League group stages, playing every minute of all six matches against Liverpool, Napoli and RB Salzburg.
The Danish international has made 22 appearances in the Belgian top-flight this season for Genk, registering four assists in the process (Transfermarkt).
Despite his hints at making a move to the Premier League, many Palace fans on Twitter feel that he won’t end up signing for the club, with some feeling he’ll end up joining Southampton or West Ham instead.
