Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis could be the perfect signing for Crystal Palace to bolster their squad in the summer.
Football Insider reported in January that Palace were in talks over a potential deal to sign Lewis, although nothing ever came to fruition and Lewis stayed at Carrow Road at the end of the window.
So should Palace reignite their interest in the summer?
Yes.
Norwich are currently bottom of the Premier League and look like they could be heading back down to the Championship, which is something Palace could look to benefit from ahead of next season.
If Norwich are relegated, Palace could tempt Lewis into jumping ship and returning to the top-flight, rather than spending another season of his career in the Championship.
It remains to be seen whether or not this would affect Lewis’ pricetag, though, after Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber told The Pink’Un that they would not be selling players for cut-price fees if they are relegated.
Lewis initially struggled to adapt to life in the top-flight following Norwich’s promotion, with some defensive errors and lapses in concentration, but he has improved of late and has become more consistent.
Norwich have conceded just twice in his last three appearances, all of which have come against sides in the top 10, and he scored the winning goal against Leicester too.
At 22, Lewis still has plenty of time to fully adapt to Premier League football and become a quality left-back at this level. With Patrick Van Aanholt soon to be heading into his 30’s, Lewis could be the ideal signing to come in and challenge him for his spot at left-back.
Lewis is also excellent at overlapping play and creating space out wide on the left. His attacking mindset and pace down the flanks could help him form a great partnership with Wilfried Zaha.
