Crystal Palace are reportedly tracking Cenk Tosun’s recovery from injury as they consider a summer swoop for him, but they could be better off focusing on Michy Batshuayi.
According to Turkish outlet Fotospor, Palace are keeping tabs on Tosun as he recovers from his knee injury at Everton and they are thinking about a potential permanent deal for him ahead of next season.
The report, however, claims that he is unlikely to be back in action until September after having his loan with Palace cut short due to injury.
Instead of being concerned with Tosun, Palace should be prioritising a swoop for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi, who could be available to sign. The Express claim that Palace are interested in the Belgian forward and that Chelsea could cash in on him this summer due to his contract expiring in 2021.
Batshuayi is two years younger than Tosun and is currently fit and could be able to play from the start of next season, as opposed to Tosun who is set to miss the beginning of the campaign. This could make it harder for Tosun to hit the ground running when he does return, whereas Batshuayi could get a full pre-season under his belt and have the opportunity to make an instant impact at Selhurst Park.
If you compare both of their loan stints at Palace, Batshuayi also comes out on top. He scored five goals in nine starts for Palace, whilst Tosun scored once in five Premier League games. Batshuayi registered a WhoScored rating of 6.86, compared to Tosun’s lowly 6.47.
This shows how Batshuayi could be a better signing for Palace than Tosun and why the club should look to focus their efforts on securing a deal for the Belgian this summer.
