Crystal Palace’s interest in Jose Sa could lead to Wayne Hennessey leaving the club this summer.
According to SDNA, Palace are one of three Premier League sides keen on a deal for the Olympiacos star at the end of the season.
The report claims that West Ham and Southampton are also interested in the Portuguese shot-stopper, who is reportedly available for a fee in the region of £13.8m.
This could mean that Hennessey’s place in the Palace squad could come under threat if Sa arrives at Selhurst Park. Hennessey has played just two Premier League matches this season, with Vincente Guaita the undisputed number one for Roy Hodgson’s side.
If Sa came in to compete with Guaita, where would that leave Hennessey? Assuming Hodgson would not put two goalkeepers on the bench, it could leave Hennessey watching on from the stands each week instead of being on the pitch or on the bench.
At the age of 33, Hennessey could still have a few good years left in him and it might mean that he wants to seek opportunities elsewhere if Palace replace him as the number two.
Rather than not playing and just picking up his wages, he could go elsewhere – either on loan or permanently – and find regular game time at another club to finish his career.
