Sean Dyche has become the latest manager linked with replacing Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace. The English coach is available after he was sacked by Nottingham Forest earlier this month.
Palace are on the lookout for a Glasner successor ahead of the Austrian’s departure in June. He is leaving the club at the end of the season, but could even make way before his deal is up.
The 51-year-old’s short-term future is uncertain amid his side’s poor form. They have won just two of their last 16 games across competitions.
Dyche down for Palace gig
Reports claim that Palace’s board discussed Glasner and the possibility of dismissing him before the summer. The decision was made to continue with the Austrian, who told fans to ‘stay humble’ amid chants calling for his sacking.
Football Insider reports that Dyche is one of several candidates on the club’s list of potential Glasner replacements. The Eagles haven’t made him one of their top choices, but he is interested in the job.
Dyche spent just 114 days in charge of Forest but was dimissed mid-February amid a three-game winless run. His side sat just three points above the drop zone when Evangelos Marinakis decided to pull the plug.
The 54-year-old does have a strong reputation in English football, particularly for his success at Burnley. He led the Clarets to Premier League promotion twice and European qualification for the first time in 51 years.
Dyche’s decade-long stay at Turf Moor ended in April 2022, and he was appointed Everton manager in January 2023. He guided the Toffees to top-flight survival, but his brand of football and poor form led to his dismissal in January 2025.
The report claims that Thomas Frank is at the top of Palace’s shortlist to replace Glasner. The Dane is also available after he was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.
Frank and Dyche are two of a growing list of options that the Eagles’ higher-ups have in mind. If they decide to part with Glasner before his contract expires, they may well move for either of them before the season concludes.
Dyche doubts
There’s no doubt that Dyche has been a success during his managerial career. His spell at Burnley was hugely impressive, overseeing 152 wins in 425 games.
His playing philosophy is worthy of admiration, but he failed to impress at Everton and Forest. He is the kind of manager suited for a relegation scrap, and that shouldn’t be on the cards for Palace next season.
Glasner might be leaving the club unceremoniously, but nobody can question his achievements at Selhurst Park. The FA Cup win last season was the greatest day in the club’s history.
Palace’s hierarchy needs to build on this by showing ambition and moving for a coach who can take the South Londoners to the next level. That would be challenging for Europe in the league.
