Oliver Glasner is leaving Crystal Palace when his contract expires at the end of the season. There have been suggestions that he could be relieved of his duties before June amid his side’s disappointing campaign.
A run of just two wins in 16 games across competitions has piled the pressure on Glasner. Fans have started to turn on the Austrian, who has yet to decide on which job he wants to take on next.
Austrian media recently suggested the role of Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer could be available. The report, relayed by Express Sport, claimed that the German is considering leaving his position due to the Red Bull clubs’ struggles for silverware.
Glasner going for Klopp’s job?
A lack of sporting progress seemed to cast doubts over Klopp continuing in his role. He was appointed in January 2025 and oversees the direction of Leeds United, RB Leipzig, Paris FC, New York Red Bulls and two other clubs.
Red Bull CEO, Oliver Mintzlaff, was asked about the situation and whether there was any truth in Klopp potentially departing (via Florian Plettenberg):
“That is complete nonsense and entirely made up. On the contrary, we are extremely satisfied with the work Jürgen Klopp is doing. He invests a great deal of time and effort, is in constant communication with our coaches and sporting directors, and continues to develop our Red Bull football philosophy in a sustainable way. We are convinced that he is the right man for this job. That is where we are putting all our focus and energy.”
Austrian outlet Salzburger Nachrichten claimed that Glasner was Red Bull’s preferred candidate to succeed Klopp. They would have a free run at the 51-year-old, given he will be available in the summer.
That doesn’t appear to be the case, though, and Klopp looks set to continue in his role. He left Liverpool after nine trophy-laden years at Anfield following the 2023-25 campaign.
Glasner’s decision
Glasner insists he is focused on seeing out the rest of the season with Palace. His side face Zrinjski Mostar in the second-leg of their Europa Conference League play-off tonight.
The Eagles were frustrated in Bosnia last week and held to a 1-1 draw, which didn’t go down well with fans. Many of those who visited Bijeli Brijeg Stadium were heard chanting for Glasner to be sacked.
Glasner has suggested he will decide his future once his reign at Selhurst Park comes to an end. He was linked with Manchester United following Ruben Amorim’s sacking in January.
The Tottenham Hotspur job is another possibility for Glasner to stay in England. The Lilywhites are looking for a new permanent manager after dismissing Thomas Frank earlier this month.
