Crystal Palace have a strong track record of signing young English prospects and developing them into the Premier League’s top talent. Eberechi Eze is a good example, arriving from Queens Park Rangers aged 22 after he was released by four academies and growing into a superstar at Selhurst Park.
Eze, of course, inevitably got his big move last summer when he left for Arsenal in a £67.5m deal. A similar situation seems to be occurring with Adam Wharton, who is linked with Manchester United and Liverpool.
Palace have spent big in the past transfer windows, breaking their club transfer record twice. The £35m spent on Brennan Johnson seems like a rash decision, given his struggles since making the move.
As a result, the Eagles might be back in the market for a new left-winger in the summer. While they have been linked with Real Betis’ Abde Ezzalzouli, they can show ambition by swooping for one of English football’s rising stars.
Palace must make Mane move

Oliver Glasner won’t be in charge when Palace look to bolster their squad. Whoever replaces the Austrian coach will want to build on his success, and getting recruitment right is crucial.
Should the club’s transfer chiefs want to sign a new winger, they need look no further than Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Mateus Mane. The 18-year-old is, without question, one of the most exciting attacking talents in the country, who has been a bright spark in a season to forget for Wolves.
| Mateus Mane (Premier League 2025-26) | Statistic |
|---|---|
| Appearances: | 18 |
| Goals: | 2 |
| Assists: | 2 |
| Big chances created: | 2 |
| Key passes: | 0.8 |
| Successful dribbles: | 1.1 (35%) |
| Ground duels won: | 4.0 (45%) |
Mane, reportedly valued at £50m, has become one of the first names on Rob Edwards’ teamsheet, posting two goals and as many assists in 18 league games. He caught the eye in his side’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Friday night (February 27th).
The England U18 international won six of 12 ground duels, made one key pass, and his pace gave the Villans all sorts of problems. It was the latest in a growing list of impressive showings for the West Midlands outfit.
Palace’s pull
Mane is expected to be on the move in the summer, with his club all but guaranteed to suffer relegation. He’s already garnered interest from Manchester United, who are reportedly considering making a move for the former Rochdale youngster.
A switch to Old Trafford will undoubtedly be appealing to the teenage attacker who has just over three years left on his contract. He is reportedly “highly rated internally” at United.
Mane’s former manager, Vitor Pereira, knows just how much potential Mane possesses. He waxed lyrical earlier this season (via BirminghamWorld):
“He’s not only a talent, he’s a worker and for me, in that moment of the game, it was not just to give him the minutes. It was because I thought he could do something. He’s special.”
If Palace want to show they mean business at the start of a new era under a new manager, joining the race for Mane proves just that. He has the makings of an Eagles star, with a profile similar to that of Michael Olise, thanks to his dribbling and clinical finishing.
The South Londoners can guarantee him a starring role in their attack, unlike United, who have plenty of options. He’d likely have to wait for his chance to shine, playing backup to Matheus Cunha and maybe even Patrick Dorgu.
