Crystal Palace learn chances of Henderson joining Tottenham

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson is reportedly on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar. The English shot-stopper has become a hero since arriving from Manchester United for around £20m in August 2023.

Henderson is now wearing the Eagles’ captain’s armband following Marc Guehi’s move to Manchester City last month. He was already massively influental but he has taken his new leadership role in his stride.

The 28-year-old produced more penalty heroics in Palace’s 1-0 win over Wolves a week ago. That display is one of many that appear to have caught Spurs’ attention ahead of the summer transfer window.

Spurs are reportedly looking to sign a Guglielmo Vicario and have set their sights on Henderson. They have long been impressed with his performances at Selhurst Park.

Henderson has just over two years left on his contract and recently warned teammates not to consider moves away. Those comments indicated that he was focused on Palace and helping them win the Europa Conference League rather than plotting a potential exit.

He has made 37 appearances across competitions this season, keeping 14 clean sheets. It follows a campaign in which he won the FA Cup, producing a penalty save in the 1-0 win over Manchester City in the final.

Spurs will struggle

Tottenham’s chances of signing the English goalkeeper look slim, judging by comments from Mick Brown. The former Premier League scout has told Football Insider that he seems intent on remaining with the South Londoners:

“It would take a lot, no doubt about that. Dean Henderson is crucial to that Palace project going forward... Got a great relationship with the supporters there as well, so I don’t think he’s got any intention of leaving the club any time soon.

Henderson was given the chance to become a number one in the top flight after years spent playing as backup to David de Gea at United. He has built a strong bond with the club’s fans and Brown feels it would be difficult for Spurs to tempt the club and the player to part ways:

“Dean Henderson would be somebody who could definitely go in and make an impact at Tottenham if they were to peruse their interest... But from a Palace point of view, I don’t see them letting him go easily. So it won’t be easy for Tottenham if they do plan to make a move for Henderson.

Henderson might feel a move to Spurs isn’t exactly a step up from Palace, given their ongoing problems. They have been dragged into a relegation battle, sitting 16th, four points above the drop zone with 10 games remaining.
