- Crystal Palace set to hold Sean Dyche talks
- Steve Parish “an admirer”
- Fans are not keen on ex-Nottingham Forest boss
Crystal Palace will reportedly hold talks with Sean Dyche as they look to find a successor to Oliver Glasner. The club need to replace the Austrian coach ahead of his departure in June.
Dyche is available after he was sacked by Nottingham Forest in February. The 54-year-old has held four managerial jobs in English football, including an impressive reign at Burnley.
Palace are considering several candidates for the job but some of them are less attainable. The Eagles’ “ideal choice” is Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, but he has interest from Tottenham Hotspur and his former playing club, Athletic Club.
Playing With Dyche
Dyche isn’t the most attractive name on the club’s managerial shortlist given he is a pragmatic coach. His time in charge of Forest left much to be admired and he was dismissed with his side sitting 17th in the Premier League table.
According to Alan Nixon, Steve Parish is “an admirer” of Dyche and has been for some time. This is somewhat of a U-turn, though, given reports back in 2017 from The Mirror that the club’s chairman opposed appointing him, despite other board members favouring his appointment.
It’s claimed that talks will be held with the former Everton boss, and advisor Ian Moody previously worked with him. He does have plenty of Premier League experience, but feels a downgrade from Glasner when comparing their managerial resumes.
Crystal Palace Fans Fume – ‘Disaster’
Some Palace supporters caught wind of the reported interest in Dyche and were less than impressed. The overall feeling is that he’d be an uninspiring choice and lacks ambition.
One fan responded to the report on X: “If that’s true, that is a absolute disgrace.”
Another added: “This will be an admission from Parish and the (co-owners) that we don’t want the expense of building a squad that has to play 50-60 games a season. We’ll stay up with Dyche but that’s his limit!”
One said: “Thats the parish i know getting a yes man in so he dont have to spend.”
This was echoed by another: “Ok, they dont want to invest and they do everything they can not to go down. Dyche is a good choice for the relegation fight.”
One fan wrote: “Would just about be the final nail for me i reckon.”
Another agreed: “Known since October that Glasner was leaving and Dyche is the best option they can come up with (bin).”
Dyche became Forest’s third manager to be sacked this season when he was axed by the Tricky Trees last month. He oversaw 10 wins and as many defeats in 25 games at the City Ground.
The Englishman’s best success came at Burnley, where he guided the Clarets to a seventh-place finish in the 2017-18 Premier League season. He also saved Everton from the drop in the 2023-24 campaign.
