Crystal Palace are reportedly monitoring Liam Rosenior’s situation at Chelsea and could move to appoint him as Oliver Glasner’s successor. That’s if the English coach’s reign at Stamford Bridge is brought to an early end.

Rosenior has been in charge of the Blues since early January, when he replaced Enzo Maresca. He left his role as manager of French outfit Strasbourg to take the biggest job of his short managerial career.

The 41-year-old made a promising start, overseeing six wins in his opening seven games, including a 3-2 win away to Serie A champions Napoli. But the wheels have fallen off and his west London side are enduring dismal form, currently on a four-game losing streak across competitions.

Crystal Palace Eye Chelsea’s Rosenior

Rosenior has previously been linked with Palace and still has admirers at Selhurst Park. He was a hit at Strasbourg, guiding them to a seventh-placed finish last season and securing Europa Conference League qualification.

The Englishman, who spent his playing career in the Premier League, signed a six-and-a-half-year contract at Chelsea. But there are already doubts over his future amid a worrying drop in form.

According to former English top-flight scout Mick Brown, Palace are keeping tabs. He told Football Insider:

“If he was to be sacked by Chelsea, he’s somebody Crystal Palace will be looking at, because they’ve been long-term admirers since before he came to Chelsea.

He added:

“So from a Crystal Palace perspective, those are good signs, because he was highly rated in France as well and there are people at Palace who like him. If he was to leave Chelsea, they’d be alerted to that and he’s somebody I’m sure they would be looking at as an option to replace Glasner.”

Palace are yet to hold talks with any potential candidate over replacing Glasner at the end of the season. All focus is on the Austrian manager’s reign ending with the Europa Conference League added to the club’s trophy cabinet.

Chelsea Unlikely to Sack Rosenior

While Rosenior has come under pressure in recent weeks due to his side’s poor performances and results, it’s extremely unlikely Chelsea will dismiss him. A report from talkSPORT claims that the Blues intend to stick by him even if they fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

A 3-0 loss away to Everton last time out means the west Londoners sit sixth in the Premier League. They are just a point behind fifth-placed Liverpool, which gives them hope of sealing their place in Europe’s elite club competition.

Chelsea are keen to give Rosenior ‘one full season’ before conducting a performance review. That casts significant doubt on Palace’s ability to appoint him as Glasner’s successor.
