- Ismaila Sarr is in a strong position to win the Golden Boot
- Crystal Palace star has been in superb form
- Sarr among most prolific in Europa Conference League
Ismaila Sarr has been in red-hot form this season and he’s been on fire in the UEFA Europa Conference League. The Crystal Palace winger has come to the fore for Oliver Glasner’s side and even has his sights set on the competition’s Golden Boot.
It’s very rare to see a Palace star pick up a goalscoring award but Sarr might just end the campaign as the tournament’s highest goalscorer. Should the Eagles make it all the way to Leipzig in May, that will only increase his chances.
With that said, Read Crystal Palace are keeping track of Sarr’s Golden Boot mission. Fans can stay up to date with his Conference League exploits.
Ismaila Sarr’s Golden Boot Race
Sarr kick-started his goalscoring in Palace’s Conference League campaign with a brace in a 3-1 win over Dutch side AZ Alkmaar. He followed that up with an important opener in a 1-1 draw away to Bosnian minnows Zrinjski Mostar in the first leg of the play-offs.
The 28-year-old was the man of the moment during the Round of 16 tie against Cypriot outfit AEK Larnaca. He scored both goals in a 2-1 win away in Cyprus in the second leg after a 0-0 draw at home.
Sarr was again on the scoresheet in Palace’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Fiorentina in the first leg of the quarter-finals. That means he has scored six goals in nine games, a brilliant record.
The State of Play
As it stands, Sarr is joint-third in the Conference League goalscoring ranks and only two players have scored more than the Senegalese attacker. They are Samunspor’s Marius Mouandilmadji and Lech Poznan’s Mikael Ishak.
Mouandilmadji and Ishak both have eight goals in 10 games. But both players’ teams have crashed out of the competition which gives Sarr a golden opportunity to finish with the Golden Boot.
That said, he has competition from AZ Alkmaar’s attacking midfielder Sven Mijnans who is also third with six goals. But the Dutch outfit look extremely likely to bow out of the tournament this week as they trail Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 in their quarter-final tie.
