- Crystal Palace now eyeing Dino Toppmoller
- German coach replaced Oliver Glasner at Eintracht Frankfurt
- Toppmoller talked up the Manchester United job
Crystal Palace have reportedly added Dino Toppmoller to their list of candidates to succeed Oliver Glasner this summer. The German coach could again follow in Glasner’s footsteps if he were to arrive at Selhurst Park.
Ironically, Toppmoller was the man whom Eintracht Frankfurt turned to after Glasner departed the German side in June 2023. He left his role as assistant manager to Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern Munich and entered the dugout at Deutsche Bank Park.
The 45-year-old lasted just under three years in the job before he was sacked by Frankfurt in January. He is available and, as such, seems to have admirers at Palace.
Toppmoller Makes Palace List
According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Palace are now eyeing Toppmoller but Bournemouth are also interested. The Cherries are on the lookout for a new coach ahead of Andoni Iraola’s confirmed departure when his contract expires in June.
Iraola has emerged as the Eagles’ ideal candidate to succeed Glasner at Selhurst Park. A separate report claims that the club have made a “multi-million” offer to the Spanish tactician.
Toppmoller could remain in Germany as VfL Wolfsburg are keen, although only if they manage to stay in the Bundesliga. But he is thought to prefer the chance to test himself in the Premier League.
The German fared well during his time at Frankfurt, overseeing 51 wins and 36 defeats in 121 games. He led Die Adler to Champions League qualification with a third-placed finish in the league in the 2024-25 season.
Toppmoller also helped develop players such as Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitike and Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush. But he was dismissed amid a poor run of form that had his side sat seventh in the Bundesliga at the start of the year.
‘Would be Nice’ – Toppmoller Talked Up Man Utd Job
Palace should be cautious if they decide to try and bring Toppmoller to South London. The club need a long-term appointment rather than a short-term one.
Glasner’s historic reign has been relatively short compared to most Premier League managers who win silverware. But he’s leaving on his own terms rather than being ousted by the higher-ups.
Toppmoller has already revealed Manchester United as his dream English club to manage. He told Sport BILD back in September:
“As a child, I always played computer games with one team: Manchester United… “That would definitely be nice someday, because it’s an extraordinary club. When I was a teenager, Manchester United was, along with Real Madrid, the biggest club of all.”
Appointing a manager who has already put the feelers out over a future Old Trafford stint could be a risk. It’s important that the club appoint someone in charge who is fully focused on the Eagles, rather than trying to attract interest from a top European giant.
