- Crystal Palace set to take on West Ham
- Tyrick Mitchell wants to get ‘high up’ the table
- Plenty of the line for both teams this evening
Crystal Palace take on West Ham this evening in a London derby, and the stakes are high for both teams. For the Eagles, a win will move them ahead of Fulham, into the chasing European pack, while the Hammers look to move further away from the drop zone.
In an interview on the Crystal Palace website, defender Tyrick Mitchell claims there is plenty at stake for both teams this evening, as he wants Palace to end the season on a high.
Mitchell said:
“We want to get as high up that table as possible. So there’s a lot riding on it for us. I think it’s a massive game for both teams. We want to continue our momentum, and they want to win to stay in the Premier League.”
The English left-back’s last league outing saw him reach 200 appearances in a Palace shirt. He’s spent years playing in high-pressure games and feels tonight is one of them.
Mitchell: We Want to Win Every Game
Earlier this week, Oliver Glasner’s side travelled to Italy to take on Fiorentina in the Conference League. Although they didn’t win on the night, they advanced to the semi-finals with a 4-2 win on aggregate on an amazing evening for the away supporters.
After a difficult winter period, the Eagles are back flying and also beat Newcastle United 2-1 at home last week, thanks to a Jean-Philippe Mateta brace. He was in a jubilant mood post-match alongside Mitchell, whom he raved about.
Mitchell claims that the attitude in the dressing room is shared by everyone. They must continue their great form.
“As everyone in the changing room has said, whether it’s myself, the Manager. We say that we want to win every game, and the aim is to take maximum points.”
He continued.
“Obviously it’s not easy and sometimes it doesn’t always come true. But our aim is just to get as many points as possible, keep our run going and see where that takes us.”
In his press conference, the Austrian manager also confirmed Mitchell’s words, as their concentration is purely on what they do on a matchday.
“We focused more on the way we are playing, on the football we want to show on the pitch, and this helped us to perform better. The consequence of this was that we got more points and more wins.”
Mitchell’s Palace Love
Last weekend, the 26-year-old celebrated his 200th Premier League appearance, and he was pleased to see the reception he received:
“It was a proud moment for myself. It’s something that I wanted to achieve and play as many Premier League games as I could.”
The left back added.
“It was an amazing reception. I appreciate them, I’m happy that they appreciate me.”
Mitchell has been an incredible servant to the Eagles, and he has been crucial to their success under Glasner. The Austrian was quick to point out his defender ahead of the match against the Hammers:
“He just worked hard on the pitch, and then he gets the benefit – and if he gets the benefit, we all get the benefit, and that’s what we really like.”
The fans that pack Selhurst Park will be hoping he can hit another milestone down the line, but his first test is against West Ham, which is set up to be yet another match with huge implications on how the team end their Premier League campaign.
