- Crystal Palace drew 0-0 with West Ham
- Jaydee Canvot hailed
- French youngster kept Jarrod Bowen quiet
Jaydee Canvot has earned recognition from non-Crystal Palace fans and the Selhurst Park faithful after keeping Jarrod Bowen quiet in a 0-0 draw against West Ham United. The young French defender is enjoying a stellar debut season.
The 19-year-old has become an undisputed starter in Oliver Glasner’s three-man defence. Tonight, he was tasked with trying to nullify the threat of Bowen, one of the Premier League’s most highly rated attackers.
Canvot did just that, putting in a sensational performance that has many concluding that he’s already replaced Marc Guehi. His display helped Dean Henderson keep a clean sheet but down the other end the attackers just lacked a cutting edge.
Crystal Palace 0-0 West Ham: Consistent Canvot
Canvot made his 30th appearance of the season tonight and he’s fast becoming one of the first names on Glasner’s teamsheet. He is showing unbelievable consistency and proving his worth.
The young French centre-back joined the Eagles from Toulouse last summer for £23m. He turns 20 in July, but you’d think he is one of the most experienced members of the squad, judging by his confident debut season.
Canvot won two of four tackles, made 11 clearances, won five of seven ground duels and all three of his aerial duels. He didn’t give Bowen a single sniff, and that’s a rarity for the Hammers’ talismanic captain.
‘So Special’ – Fans in Awe of Canvot
Canvot was Palace’s Man of the Match and many can’t believe just how quickly he’s hit his stride for the South Londoners. That’s not just the Selhurst Park faithful as rival fans are also impressed with the French starlet.
Palace Report gave a glowing verdict:
“Locked up Bowen. Excellent again.”
A West Ham fan wrote:
“Mitchell and Canvot absolutely pocketed Bowen btw, locked him up penitentiary style.”
A Palace supporter added:
“Canvot absolutely dog walked Bowen tonight.”
The French centre-back even caught the eye of a popular Barcelona fan:
“How on earth have Palace already replaced Guehi? Who is this Canvot kid and why is he so good?!”
One Eagles fan feels Canvot is following in Michael Olise’s footsteps:
“Canvot is so special!! Feel like this is going to be like Olise all over again where he goes largely unrecognised for just how good he really is until he gets a big move.”
Glasner will be keen for Canvot to keep up his excellent form as the season reaches its conclusion. Next up is a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on Saturday (April 25th).
