Scottish football legend Ally McCoist has given his prediction on who will replace Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace. The club has yet to make a decision on the Austrian’s successor.

Former Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is the latest name to be linked with the job. He’s said to be on a shortlist which includes Andoni Iraola, Frank Lampard, Thomas Frank, and Robbie Keane.

The Eagles appear to view Iraola as the ideal candidate, and David Ornstein recently confirmed their interest in the Spaniard. He is set to leave Bournemouth at the end of the season when his contract expires.

McCoist Suggests Frank

McCoist didn’t name Iraola among the two men he thinks are possible Palace appointments. He said on talkSPORT:

“I could see Thomas Frank maybe getting the Palace job or even the Fulham job if Marco Silva leaves… Thomas Frank is the one I could easily see staying in London and coming back.”

Frank has been out of management since January, when he was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur. The Dane endured a miserable spell in charge of the Lilywhites who now find themselves in danger of relegation.

The 52-year-old’s reputation has taken a knock due to his struggles in North London. But he was one of the Premier League’s most highly-rated tacticians when he arrived from Brentford last summer.

Frank led the Bees to top-flight promotion for the first time in 74 years in 2021. He then ensured they remained in the division and built a squad capable of battling it out mid-table.

The Spurs job almost felt like a poisoned chalice, and Frank’s failures are minor compared to the dreadful reign of caretaker manager Igor Tudor. That’s why the Palace hierarchy might focus more on what he achieved at Gtech when deciding whether he is a worthy Glasner successor.

Frank Ticks Boxes

While Frank wouldn’t be the most exciting appointment, he certainly has the credentials to succeed at Selhurst Park. Palace is a step up from Brentford, but not of the magnitude of Spurs, where every single decision and action is under the microscope.

The Dane falls into the same category as Roy Hodgson, a well-respected tactician but not one a top European club would appoint. The Eagles are building towards becoming a regular team in Europe and it could be wise to turn to the former Brentford manager.

Frank didn’t just oversee the west Londoners’ promotion, he built the club from battling for EFL Championship play-offs to Premier League mid-table solidarity. He isn’t the most ambitious candidate but he might be the most sensible one.
