- Crystal Palace face Liverpool on Saturday (April 25th)
- Jan Molby gives his verdict
- Oliver Glasner looking to make it four wins in a row
Jan Molby reckons Crystal Palace will cause his former side Liverpool all sorts of problems when the two teams meet on Saturday (April 25th). The Eagles boast a victory over the Reds in the reverse fixture.
Oliver Glasner sealed a dramatic 2-1 win at Selhurst Park back in September when Eddie Nketiah struck a 90+7th-minute winner. Ismaila Sarr had given the hosts a ninth-minute lead before Federico Chiesa netted an 87th-minute equaliser.
Nketiah’s goal secured all three points for Palace and also handed Liverpool their first Premier League defeat this season. It resulted in a nosedive in form for the defending champions, who went on to lose their next three games.
Molby: Crystal Palace Will Find Liverpool Weaknesses
Palace head into Saturday’s game having drawn 0-0 against West Ham United on Monday. That was a game of few chances but encounters with Liverpool often make for captivating viewing.
Take, for example, the 1-0 win at Anfield back in April 2024, which cost Jurgen Klopp a title-winning farewell. There was also Istanbul, where the Eagles came from behind to draw 3-3 and again caused another title collapse.
Molby highlighted his former club’s struggles against the South Londoners when speaking on Molby on the Spot from Anfield Index. He said:
“Recent history tells you that we will struggle against Crystal Palace. We will struggle, we always do.”
Glasner has tasted defeat just once in six meetings across competitions with Liverpool. He’s on a run of three wins against Slot’s men, which Molby alluded to
“He (Glasner) will no doubt find weaknesses in the way that we play.”
Molby added:
“He’ll probably look at transition and go, you know, we can really hurt them.”
Slot looks likely to stay on as the Reds’ manager next season despite feeling the heat during his sophomore season. His side have endured a nosedive after winning the title last May but are fifth and do look likely to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Molby: Oliver Glasner a Top Manager
Glasner will be taking charge of his final game against Liverpool as Palace manager. The Austrian leaves his role at the end of the season and is looking to end his reign successfully.
That means trying to finish as high as possible in the Premier League table. He can also become the first Eagles boss to win a European trophy ahead of his side’s Conference League semi-final against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Molby called Glasner a ‘top, top manager’ ahead of Saturday’s clash at Anfield. There’s an obvious recognition of the 51-year-old’s success at Selhurst Park, guiding the South Londoners to FA Cup glory last season and the Community Shield at the start of this campaign.
