- Crystal Palace face Liverpool on Saturday (April 25)
- Oliver Glasner confirms Adam Wharton will be available
- Attacking duo ruled out of Anfield trip
Oliver Glasner has positive news regarding Adam Wharton ahead of Crystal Palace’s encounter with Liverpool tomorrow (April 25th). The English midfielder missed Monday’s 0-0 draw against West Ham United.
Wharton picked up a knock in Palace’s 2-1 loss (4-2 win on aggregate) against Fiorentina last Thursday in Florence. He was brought off in the first half after an issue with his Adductor arose.
The 22-year-old had been forced to withdraw from international duty with England because of the same injury. But Glasner has allayed fears that he’ll be out any longer.
Glasner Confirms Wharton Return
Glasner spoke ahead of the Liverpool game and gave an update on Wharton. He told reporters during his pre-match press conference:
“Adam [Wharton] is good. He is fit and trained yesterday without any issues. So he’ll be available for Liverpool.”
Wharton could return to Glasner’s starting lineup for the game at Anfield. The Austrian boss will be keen on maintaining his unbeaten record away to the Reds.
The English midfielder’s minutes might be managed ahead of the UEFA Conference League semi-final, though. His side faces Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg next Thursday, and that should be the priority.
Wharton has appeared 44 times across competitions this season, posting seven assists. He played an important role in the 2-1 win over Slot’s champions at Selhurst Park last September.
Guessand Still Out
Glasner also ruled Evann Guessand and Eddie Nketiah out of Saturday’s game against Liverpool. Guessand has a knee injury and hasn’t featured since the 3-0 win over Fiorentina in the first leg of the Conference League quarter-finals.
Nketiah is out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury and won’t play again under Glasner. His manager said:
“Of course, two injuries we still have are Eddie Nketiah and Evann Guessand. So they will miss this game.”
Glasner will be keen to have Guessand available again soon, given his impressive displays since arriving on loan from Aston Villa in January. The Ivorian won’t be able to trigger a buy clause, but the club are reportedly ready to sign him regardless.
Guessand has made 11 appearances for Palace, registering two goals and one assist. He has been used out on the left wing, and his versatility could be crucial during the run-in.
