- West Brom want to sign Crystal Palace’s Danny Imray
- English right-back impressed on loan
- A decision won’t be made until new manager appointed
Crystal Palace face a decision over Danny Imray as West Bromwich Albion reportedly want to sign him permanently. The English right-back has spent the second half of the season on loan with the Baggies.
Imray has been a key player during a difficult season for West Brom, appearing 17 times and posting 1 goal and 2 assists. He headed to The Hawthorns after spending the first half of the campaign on loan at Blackpool.
The 22-year-old has played his last game for James Morrison and he posted a farewell message on Instagram on Sunday. He stated “It’s been a pleasure Baggies!! I’ve loved my time here.”
West Brom Want Imray
Imray’s time at West Brom might not be over yet, as John Percy of The Telegraph claims Morrison wants to keep him. It’s said he is a “top target” for the newly appointed Baggies manager.
The young English full-back, dubbed “brilliant”, made a great impression during his spell in the Championship. As such, the West Midlands outfit wants to sign him permanently.
A potential transfer is likely to be delayed ahead of Palace appointing an Oliver Glasner successor. The Eagles might well decide that he has an important role to play in a new era at Selhurst Park.
Nathaniel Clyne is likely to leave when his contract is up in June, meaning Daniel Munoz will need backup. There’s a possibility that a new coach may opt for a different system rather than Glasner’s three-at-the-back.
Why Palace Could Agree to Sale
There have already been several players linked with Palace ahead of the summer transfer window. One of those is Genk’s Zakaria El Ouahdi, whom the Eagles reportedly have “genuine interest” in signing.
El Ouahdi is a right-back and ironically plays for Munoz’s former club. If the transfer chiefs were to bring the Moroccan to Selhurst Park, that could help West Brom in their bid to secure Imray permanently.
It’s hard to understand where Palace stand over Imray, given they will be heading in a new direction when a manager replaces Glasner. He proved to be an excellent loan signing for the Baggies and perhaps Steve Parish and the board feel he can be Munoz’s long-term replacement.
Imray might want guaranteed game time next season, though, and there’s little to no chance of displacing the Colombian. One possibility is the Englishman returning to the Championship club on loan again before a decision on his Selhurst Park future is made.
