Crystal Palace vs Everton: History suggest Everton win

Share
  • History doesn’t favour Palace
  • Toffees won seven of last ten meetings
  • Palace without a win since 2022

Crystal Palace host Everton in the Premier League today [Sunday 10th May], as they look to continue their high spirits after Thursday night’s Conference League triumph. A win against the Toffees would go against the recent trend of events, as Everton have consistently had the upper hand in this fixture.

David Moyes’ side are in the hunt for European football, and a win at Selhurst Park would put them just two points behind Brighton and Hove Albion in seventh place.

Despite them remaining in the race for the top seven, Everton haven’t been on the best run and will have to overturn recent disappointment in order to reenter the race for European qualification.

History of the fixture

Everton have been somewhat of a Bogey team for Palace in recent years, and Palace haven’t won a single one of the last ten meetings between the two sides. The last time the Eagles were victorious against the Blues was in the FA Cup quarter finals in 2022, winning 4-0 at Selhurst Park under Patrick Vieira.

The game before that, another Selhurst win, but that ended a thirteen game winless run against Everton.

In fact, since Palace’s return to the Premier League almost 14 years ago, Palace have only beaten the Toffees three times. Late winners are a staple of this fixture too, with Everton scoring beyond the 80th minute in six of the last ten games.

Everton have just two Premier League games remaining after their trip to Selhurst Park, as Palace play their game in hand against Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Palace realistically need to win all four of their remaining league games if they are to qualify for Europe via the league, but will of course be focusing on their Conference League final against Rayo Vellacano in just over two weeks time.

Last time out

In Palace’s first trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium back in October, Palace went into halftime a goal up courtesy of a Daniel Munoz strike. A handful of huge chances were missed for Palace, which continues to haunt Palace’s league position to this day, and Everton went on to turn the game around.

An Illiman Ndiaye penalty levelled the score on 76 minutes, before Jack Grealish scored a winner in the 93rd minute after some frankly amateur defending.

That win made it three on the bounce in the fixture for today’s visitors, who are desperate to get back to winning ways after failing to do so in their last four games.

A dramatic 3-3 draw with Manchester City last week blew the title race open, and earned Moyes’ side a well deserved point after disappointing defeats to both Liverpool and West Ham.
