- Lacroix credited for reliable defending
- Real Madrid, Arsenal and Manchester United express interest
- The defender moving up the pecking order in the French squad
Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix is preparing for his World Cup debut for France, with his performance this season earning him a dream call up to Didier Deschamps’ squad and interest from major European clubs.
The 26-year-old has had another great campaign with Palace, after joining in August 2024 and aiding the Eagles victories in the FA Cup Final, Community Shield and UEFA Conference League Final.
His defending has been solid earning him the credit of “Mr Reliable”, especially stepping up to become the experienced defensive voice following the exit of Marc Guehi in January.
Lacroix’s performances earned him his first Senior call up to the French Squad in March, and later being named in their World Cup Squad. He has been thought off as the “first-choice backup” for France’s World Cup squad, with Arsenal’s William Saliba managing a back injury which could see Lacroix step up when needed.
Previously the role was held by Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate but the defender has had a shaky run of form which has opened an opportunity for Palace’s star defender.

European Teams Interested in Lacroix
According to the Simon Jones of The Daily Mail, Lacroix has been discussed by Real Madrid, with Arsenal and Manchester United also strong admirers of the defender.
The Daily Mail suggested the French international is at a stand off in contract talks with Palace and could be interested in making a move across Europe. Lacroix is contracted at Palace until 2029 after joining from Wolfsburg in 2024 on a £18m deal.
The defender is interested in playing Champions League football, and could be attracted by the opportunities presented by Real Madrid, Arsenal or Manchester United.
Lacroix best to remain at Palace
For Lacroix’s career remaining at Palace for at least another season may be of huge benefit. Another successful campaign in Europe could see Lacroix’s profile rise more and allow him more competitive opportunities across Europe.
His time at Palace has benefited him, with the French call up a dream come true, and one that may not have happened if he had to compete for the starting lineup at more competitive European clubs.
