Kwesi Appiah has signed a new two-year deal at Crystal Palace this afternoon, as he only had three months remaining on his previous deal at the club.
The 24-year-old scored eight goals this season in 23 appearances whilst on loan at Cambridge United which earned him a call-up to Avram Grant’s Ghanaian African Cup of Nations squad. He made four appearances throughout the tournament scoring a goal and creating another two – landing him with a fair play award for his performances.
Upon his return from the African Cup of Nations, the striker has scored four goals in two appearances for Crystal Palace’s Under-21s after scoring a hat-trick against Leeds United on Tuesday at the KNK Stadium.
Speaking to Palace TV, the forward said: “It’s been a great year for me – I did well on loan at Cambridge United and on the back of that I got a call up to the Ghanaian national team which I’m thankful for.
“It’s put me in good stead coming back to Crystal Palace after the Africa Cup of Nations so the season has gone from strength to strength.
“Myself and Alan Pardew have had a few chats since I’ve come back and he’s been very complimentary about my game, he’s taken to a me a little bit and asked me to do a few things to prove myself to him and earn this contract and it seems as though I’ve done that so I’m delighted.”
