Crystal Palace’s Beckenham training ground is currently undergoing numerous upgrades ahead of the new season and will not be avaliable for full use in time for when pre-season begins at the start of July, as revealed by the Croydon Advertiser.
It is understood that one of the main modifications being made at the training ground this summer will be the installation of the old pitch from Selhurst Park which itself has been undergoing rigorous works over the past couple of weeks, which also includes the laying of a new state of the art pitch.
Eagles fans will be wondering where their players will regain full fitness at a crucial time but the board have managed to find a solution to the problem, as the team will travel to St. George’s Park for the first week of their pre-season training.
The facilities will be used by Palace at Burton-Upon-Trent for four days, joining the likes of Barcelona, Steaua Bucharest, Galatasaray and AS Monaco who have also done so in the past. St George’s Park boasts a replica of a full size football pitch, a hydrotherapy pool and a gym.
This pre-season will be different for most of the Palace players compared to previous season with it understood that there will be no intensive running and hill exercises that have been seen in the past, with bike rides being one of the key events, of which was recorded for Palace’s official video channels.
Last summer, former Palace boss Tony Pulis took the squad to Austria for a pre-season training camp of which was mainly altitude based.
