Former Arsenal and Crystal Palace striker Ian Wright believes that the Eagles’ Jason Puncheon deserved a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s England team more than Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dele Alli.
Since making the switch from Southampton to Crystal Palace, Puncheon has been pivotal in the success that is currently at the home of the Eagles. Under Pardew, the 29-year-old has been one of Palace’s most influential players.
Meanwhile, Spurs’ Alli has only made four appearances for his side but was given a chance to impress Hodgson straight away in the latest international break.
When you consider he’s played only four games, it does seem like ‘what are you aiming for then’?
You can’t say that he’s improved a lot since moving [in that space of time]. He’s done pretty well, and that’s unbelievable for him, but why not look at someone like Jason Puncheon?
He [Puncheon] has had a fantastic few seasons, and give him a chance. Why hasn’t he had a little look?
Also, Wright wasn’t only keen to express that there’s other players in the Palace camp that also deserve a call-up to represent their country. Now BT Sport pundit Wright feels that central defender Scott Dann should also be given the chance to prove himself at international level following a consistent run of impressive performances in Palace’s back line.
I’d also have a look at Scott Dann. Roy Hodgson could have had a look at him, in these kind of games.
