Former Crystal Palace midfielder – and captain – Shaun Derry has been appointed as the manager of League 2 side, Cambridge United.
The former Queens Park Rangers and Millwall anchor was in talks with the club’s chief executive, Jez George. The club are looking to replace former boss Richard Money who departed Abbey Stadium earlier this week.
During his time at Selhurst Park, the 37-year-old England international made over 200 appearances. Derry was spotted making notes at the home of Cambridge when they picked up a 1-0 win in the FA Cup against Basingstoke.
In 2013, Derry was appointed as the manager of the club in his hometown, Notts County, but was then sacked in March. Despite a temporary revival up the table during his stay, he was relieved of his duties with the team sitting in the same kind of position as they were when he initially joined.
It was believed that Neil Warnock was interested in bringing Derry back to Loftus Road to be the assistant manager at the Championship club.
We wish Shaun the best of luck in his new role.
