Crystal Palace bid for striker rejected

Crystal Palace have had a bid rejected by Sporting Lisbon for striker Islam Slimani, according to a report in Portugal.

The report from O Jogo says that Palace bid Sporting €12.5m for the Algerian, but it was rejected by the Portuguese club.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form for Sporting this season, scoring seven goals in 10 league games, and that goal scoring prowess has attracted interest from numerous Premier League clubs, including Tottenham and West Ham.

According to O Jogo, Sporting are holding out for a transfer fee in the region of €20m for the Algerian international, which may well be out of Palace’s price range.

It seems odd that The Eagles are in the market for a striker, as they have so many on their books. However, the Palace strikers have struggled for goals this season and with Patrick Bamford’s loan possibly ending early and Dwight Gayle being linked with a move away, it is possible that Alan Pardew could be looking for a new addition.
