Yannick Bolasie discusses his improvement in front of goal

After finding the back of the net twice in Crystal Palace’s 5-1 win against Newcastle at the weekend, forward Yannick Bolasie says he’s been working hard on the training pitch to improve his goalscoring record.

The Congolese international has never been a prolific goalscorer but says the work he’s been doing with Alan Pardew is starting to pay dividends in terms of goals.

I wasn’t really in the box last season but this season I am in the box a lot more, I am picking up little scraps and so far I have got goals off scraps. I think it’s all down to the gaffer and what he does in training and you can see it in the boys.

Bolasie also spoke about the strength in depth that Palace now how. Bakary Sako looks set to be out for a few weeks with a hamstring injury while winger Wilfried Saha will miss the Eagles’ next match against Everton as he is suspended.

It’s tough right now but hopefully someone like Lee Chung-yong can come in and step up to the plate and that’s the reason why we have such a good squad. You think of the players who have been left out, like Frazer Campbell, Jordan Mutch, so there are still players who can come in and do a good job.

The 26-year-old also spoke more in depth about the away clash with the Toffees on Monday night and he said that Palace will go into the game full of confidence after the demolition of Steve McClaren’s side.

[The Newcastle win has] done a lot for confidence and we play Everton next week, who are another team who we normally have good games against, but every season is different so that will be another tough game for sure.

Palace currently sit in 7th position in the league table, just 4 points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
