Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Hitchin Town defender Kane Smith, according to Damion Roberts of local news outlet The Comet.
According to the report, the Eagles have been in contact with Hitchin Town officials about the possibility of taking the 19-year-old on another trial. Smith recently had a trial with Palace and featured in two of their Under 21 games, against Charlton Athletic and Cardiff City respectively.
West Brom are also keen on taking a closer look at the defender.
Speaking last week about the possibility on Smith joining Alan Pardew’s side, Hitchin manager Mark Burke said:
He’s done very well for himself, and the two games he’s played for Crystal Palace he’s impressed. Hopefully we are building a reputation, and we’re giving youngsters a chance. We can’t afford the big players and we have to grow our own, and we have a number of other good lads at the club too. Kane is of course the flavour of the month at the moment, and it’s a hot topic players going from non-league football not just into the Football League but also the Premiership like Jamie Vardy. Everyone is talking about it, and if Kane did sign for them it would be great news for everyone.

Smith is a right back who grew up playing at the Luton Town Academy. He went on to play for non-league Biggleswade Town before making the move to Hitchin.
Currently plying his trade in the Southern League Premier Division, the seventh tier of English football, Hitchin Town sit in 7th place, 14 points behind leaders Poole Town, but with four games in hand on the table-toppers.
Smith came on at halftime in Hitchin’s 2-0 victory over Paulton Rovers on Monday night and set up the first goal after his shot was saved, allowing Brett Donnelly to tap home the rebound.
