Palace & Bournemouth linked with England defender

According to a report by Matt Law in The Telegraph, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth are interested in a move for Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker, who is currently on loan at Premier League rivals Southampton.

Caulker, who was capped once by England in 2012 – a game in which he scored, has not been featuring regularly for Ronald Koeman’s side, with Jose Fonte and Virgil Van Dijk being the Dutchman’s preferred central defensive duo, and he is apparently looking at the possibility of ending his loan move early in order to seal a switch to another club.

According to Law, Palace are looking for a long-term replacement for 34-year-old Damien Delaney, and at just 24-years-of-age, Caulker certainly fits the bill.

The defender was regarded as one of the brightest young talents in English football at one stage, but his career has stagnated in recent seasons. At one stage he’d have hoped to have been part of England’s Euro 2016 squad, but that will not be the case, and he’ll hope a move and some regular football might see him once again rewarded with an international call-up.
