Crystal Palace goalkeeper Steve Mandanda has said that it would be a ‘great pleasure’ to return to his old club Marseille, after leaving the French side for Selhurst Park in the summer transfer window.
It isn’t what every fan wants to hear from a player, especially when Mandanda has been linked with a move away from the club, back to his former club. However, the rumours were just that in the January transfer window and the French goalkeeper is making his return from injury.
This sparked a reaction on Twitter with one tweet in particular questioning his commitment to the club, quoting an interview which Mandanda spoke about his feelings towards Marseille:
Twitter: Mandanda- “It would be a pleasure to return back to Marseille” This bloke hasn’t wanted to play for us from the get go. Why did he sign? (@CPFCFanzone)
Despite this, some fans have said that even if he isn’t passionate about the club, he still is the best keeper Palace have, considering the performances of Wayne Hennessey since the Frenchman picked up an injury in the first couple of months of the season.
Twitter: Don’t care what Mandanda says he’s still miles better than Hennessey. (@PatrickEagles15)
Twitter: @DProspo Being home sick is an attitude? (@PatrickEagles15)
Twitter: @DProspo I don’t have an issue with his comment. (@PatrickEagles15)
Mandanda has only played ten times (with one clean sheet) for Palace since his move from Marseille, but got a knee injury in November and hasn’t featured since.
According to ligue1.com ‘Mandanda has slipped behind Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey’ but in reality if he hadn’t have got injured on international duty he would still be in the team and be first choice.
Mandanda said: “It would be a great pleasure to return, because my feeling for the club is enormous. If I have to return to France it will be with Marseille and nobody else.”
However, the Frenchman has recently returned to training and is closing in on a return to first team football with the fans calling for him to start.
Would you like to see Mandanda as the first team goalkeeper again?
