Sam Allardyce confirms ligament damage for Mamadou Sakho

Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that defender Mamadou Sakho suffered ligament damage in the defeat to Tottenham.

Sakho left the field on a stretcher in the second half after he caught the studs of his boots in the pitch before falling awkwardly.

The centre-back was made to wear a protective leg brace and will now have further scans to determine the severity of his injury.

Allardyce thinks that the Frenchman has suffered a major injury and that his season could now be over. Although it is not confirmed which ligament he has damaged, it looks like he’ll be out for a long time.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Allardyce said this:

It’s a ligament injury, which ligament we don’t know.

We hope it’s not the cruciate. It could be medial or lateral, but certainly a hyperextension of the knee. We will see after a scan.

We won’t know if any of our three (Tomkins, Sakho, Dann) injured centre-halves will get fit again.

Sakho is currently on loan from Liverpool until the end of the season but looks set to return to Jurgen Klopp’s side for treatment as his campaign appears to be over.

Whether or not he will return to Palace in the summer is another question, which Liverpool said to have upped their valuation of £20m following his impressive performances for the Eagles.
