New Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer has admitted Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s knowledge of the 3-4-3 system was crucial in his plans to bring him to the club on loan.
Football London reports that the Dutchman is keen to implement the system that was key in Chelsea’s charge to the title last season at Selhurst Park.
Ruben knows the system and he is a very young lad so he can improve and learn a lot still. I think it’s a quality injection for the squad, and the position he played today was a sitting midfielder but he can also play offensive midfield, so we can use him in a lot of situations.
De Boer took over at Palace this summer and made Loftus-Cheek, who is in search of regular first-team football in the Premier League, his first summer signing.
After failing to hold down a regular place in the Chelsea first-team squad last season, Loftus-Cheek fell out of favour, with Antonio Conte attempting to utilise him both as a forward and as a midfielder.
Niggling back injuries kept the midfielder sidelined towards the second half of the season, halting his development.
The midfielder came off the bench to feature in Palace’s first pre-season game against Liverpool yesterday.
