Who is leading the race for Crystal Palace job after Newcastle setback?

Pierre Sage is under increasing pressure after Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United, which followed the embarrassing 5-0 loss against Brighton.

Crystal Palace have managed just seven points from their opening eight Premier League matches, and questions are growing over how long the Frenchman will remain in charge.

As reports emerge of a potential replacement, Crystal Palace could have an advantage over Celtic in the race to appoint Kieran McKenna if they decide to part ways with Pierre Sage.

Kieran McKenna emerges as potential Sage replacement

Kieran McKenna has emerged as a possible option for Palace, having left Ipswich Town in the summer.

The 40-year-old remains highly sought-after option after guiding Ipswich through successive promotions from League One to the Premier League.

Celtic are also interested in the manager, but according to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Palace could hold an advantage if they decide to make a move.

“Clubs in the Premier League in England probably would be willing to offer him more than maybe Celtic would be, so they would have an advantage if they were to make a move.”

Palace previously considered McKenna before appointing Oliver Glasner in 2024. His name has now resurfaced as the club weighs up its options after a difficult start to life at Selhurst Park for Pierre Sage.

Thomas Frank and Vitor Pereira also in the frame

McKenna is not the only manager who could be considered if Palace decide to make a change.

Thomas Frank remains an option after being dismissed by Tottenham last season. The former Brentford boss was linked with the Palace job during the summer before the club appointed Sage.

is another available manager with Premier League experience. He left Nottingham Forest during the summer and has a connection with Palace sporting director Matt Hobbs, having worked with him at Wolves.

Sage meanwhile is adamant that he has the board’s support despite a lackluster campaign so far. Despite Sage’s claims of support, consecutive league defeats against Brighton and Newcastle have left him under pressure.

If Palace decide they need a replacement for Sage, McKenna is one name that will be on top of the headlines.
