2017/12 was a mixed season for Crystal Palace. For much of the campaign, they were in and around the relegation zone, but in the end, they comfortably secured another Premier League season, finishing in 11th place.
A start that resulted in no points or even goals after the first seven games, fans could have been forgiven for thinking their stay in the top flight was coming to an end.
Roy Hodgson had other ideas though. Appointed in September, his 44 points accumulated from 34 games has the fans optimistic for the new season already.
Before leaving, Frank de Boer made a number of summer signings, including youngsters from both Chelsea and Manchester Unite, giving them their first taste of being first-choice for their positions. Hodgson added to that in January to help Palace survive for another year.
We’ve graded the campaigns that each of these players had in a Palace shirt.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek - A
Ruben Loftus-Cheek received a lot of praise for his performances since arriving on loan from Chelsea. Palace would love to have him back next season.
Jairo Riedwald – E
Riedwald featured just 12 times for the Eagles, with most of those from the bench. The 21-year-old looks like he will struggle to fit into Hodgson’s future plans.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah – B
On loan from Manchester United he put in many good performances in getting more Premier League experience, but he unlikely to return next season.
Mamadou Sakho - B
Injury blighted much of his season although his end of season performances show why the Eagles paid so much for the centre-back.
Alexander Sorloth – C
Sorloth made a handful of appearances but is still getting used to life in the Premier League and Hodgson will hope he is ready next season.
Diego Cavalieiri - F
Signed as cover due to injury problems, he will probably depart the Eagles having never made an appearance.
Jaroslaw Jach - F
Signed by Hodgson, the Polish international is clearly a signing for future use and he failed to make any appearances.
Erdal Rakip – F
A very strange signing. The midfielder never appeared for the Eagles first-team following his loan from Benfica in January.
