Fosu-Mensah hails Crystal Palace supporters

Manchester United defender and former Crystal Palace loanee Timothy Fosu-Mensah has praised Palace fans following the expiry of his loan stint with the club.

The 20-year old spent last season on loan at Selhurst Park, making 24 appearances in all competitions for the Eagles, while impressing in a variety of positions.

Held in high regard by United, the versatile defender-cum-midfielder played as a defensive midfielder, as well as both a right-back and centre-half throughout the season.

Now back at Old Trafford, the Netherlands international has expressed his gratitude at being given the opportunity by Palace to be welcomed by their fan base. Fosu-Mensah said:

Playing in front of the home fans at Selhurst was very special. When we played against Chelsea and Manchester City at home, they were crazy and those are some very special memories for me.

They are great fans because we struggled at the start, but they stood by us and that shows a lot about the club and the fans. I don’t think any other fans would do that for their team.

I think it was a good season and I enjoyed it a lot. As a young player you have to learn and you’re going to make mistakes, but Palace gave me an opportunity. It’s been great to play for a beautiful club like Palace in the Premier League – it was just amazing.

matchday.
