Palace in second place for Ings as Southampton preferred destination

Crystal Palace are lagging behind Southampton in the race for Danny Ings.

Daily Mirror reporter David Maddock claims that the saga will run right up to the 5pm deadline this evening, and despite the only ‘concrete’ bid coming from Palace, the Saints remain the favoured option for Ings.

Blighted by injury, Ings has made just 25 appearances in three years at Liverpool and the presence of Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge, and Dominic Solanke at Anfield means playing time may be increasingly hard to come by.

The 26-year-old has been tipped to leave Merseyside on both loan and permanent deals, with no clue as to which type of exit Reds manager Jürgen Klopp may prefer.

The Eagles have wrapped up a deal for Swansea’s Jordan Ayew early on deadline day, and as such may now take a back-seat in the contest to secure Ings.

matchday.
