Palace prefer Ligue 1 move for Souare

Crystal Palace are set to send full-back Pape Souare on loan to Ligue 1, frustrating Newcastle in the process.

The Magpies have been frustrated thus far on deadline day, with alternative deals also falling through.

Keen to offload the 28-year-old for the immediate future, The Guardian claim that the Eagles are not interested in sending the defender to a rival Premier League club.

Souare joined Palace in 2015, and has made 59 appearances during his time at Selhurst Park.

However, with a combined eight appearances in the last two seasons, the South Londoners are eager to see the left-back receive regular playing time.

Patrick van Aanholt and Jeffrey Schlupp have split time on the perimeter of the back four, leaving Souare out in the cold.

Newcastle added Swiss centre-half Fabian Schär during the transfer window, but manager Rafael Benitez is seemingly wanting to add further defensive help before the start of the 2018-19 campaign.
