Hodgson thinks team will remain unaffected by loss of Holmesdale Fanatics

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson believes his side will remain unaffected by the loss of the Holmesdale Fanatics.

The supporters group had become a stalwart of Selhurst Park matches in recent years, occupying the front-left corner of the Holmesdale Stand and were often seen with flags carrying various messages.

In addition, the group brought drums to matches and led much of the singing in South London.

However, the club’s planned redevelopment of the stand however led to the group refusing to take their seats in protest, and Crystal Palace then sold the seats to other supporters.

Despite the loss, Hodgson thinks it won’t cause too much of an impact:

We have 24,500 people coming in to see us play and I think all of them have that desire to get behind the team,

If there’s a small band of people who for some reason are in some sort of dispute with the club, I hope that will get sorted out in the best possible way. But it won’t affect me, it won’t affect the team and it certainly won’t affect the atmosphere because, as I say, we’ve got 24 and a half thousand people who make the atmosphere and not just a particular group.

Palace will play their first home game of the season against Hodgson’s former club Liverpool on Monday night.
