Benteke set for swift return to action after knee surgery

Christian Benteke has undergone knee surgery, but his club are expecting their Belgian target man back in training soon.

The forward has been out of action since Palace’s 2-0 defeat at home to Southampton at the start of September and pulled out of Belgium’s squad during the last international break.

With just four appearances under his belt in this campaign, Benteke has been struggling for goal-scoring form for a while.

Scoring three in 30 last year, Benteke is yet to find the net this season.

BBC Sport quote Palace as saying:

The club can confirm Christian Benteke has undergone minor arthroscopic explorative surgery and washout of his knee,

The surgeon was happy with the outcome and we expect Christian to return to training very soon. A further update will be given in a few weeks’ time.

Roy Hodgson has been deploying various formations in Benteke’s absence, largely featuring Wilfried Zaha playing as a striker.

matchday.
