Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend has been awarded this year’s Carling Premier League Goal of the Season, the Daily Mail report.
Townsend’s superb strike was picked as the winner ahead of the likes of Vincent Kompany, Daniel Sturridge and Eden Hazard.
The England international’s goal came against Man City in Crystal Palace’s shock 3-2 over the Premier League champions in December.
Townsend’s goal was a simply unstoppable volley from 30 yards out which helped his side come from behind to earn a famous win over Pep Guardiola’s side.
In most people’s eyes, Townsend was a deserving winner of this year’s official Goal of the Season trophy, but there has been some other insane strikes in the campaign.
Kompany was favoured by some and was given Match of the Day’s Goal of the Season accolade for his wonder strike in Man City’s 1-0 win against Leicester in their penultimate game of the season.
Other players in the running for the award was Sturridge for his last minute top corner leveller for Liverpool against Chelsea in September and Hazard for his brilliant solo goal against West Ham United.
But in the end, Townsend was a fully deserving winner of the award after another great Premier League season which included some incredible goals.
