Crystal Palace enjoyed a successful 2018/19 campaign as they ended the season 12th in the Premier League.
Roy Hodgson guided the side to another comfortable midtable finish in the league, despite fears that a relegation battle could have been on the cards this year.
Palace will now be hoping to use this as a platform to progress and push into the top 10 next season, with qualifying for the Europa League also a potential target for the club.
Hodgson, however, will need to improve his squad if he wants to overtake their rivals in the table. One position they need to strengthen is the goalkeeper.
Vincente Guatia and Wayne Hennessey shared the goalkeeping duties throughout the season, but a first-choice, consistent, number one is needed.
Stoke City’s Jack Butland has been heavily linked with a move to Palace. Should they sign him? Here are four reasons why they should…
He's still young
Although he, perhaps, became somewhat of a forgotten man in the Championship last season, Butland is still only 26. In goalkeeping terms, he’s still a youngster. He has plenty of room to improve and grow, with Palace a potential platform for him to show his ability.
Premier League experience
With 122 Premier League appearances for Stoke, it’s fair to say that Butland is experienced at this level. The shot-stopper would not need a settling in period, unlike a signing from a foreign league.
He's an improvement
Despite flashes of quality from Guaita at times, Butland would be an improvement on the Spanish goalkeeper. He showed how good he can be whilst in the Premier League with Stoke and impressed in the Championship this season.
Relationship with Roy
Roy Hodson gave Jack Butland his international debut in 2012 and worked with him in the England set-up many times. That relationship could help Butland to thrive at Selhurst Park next season if he were to join the club from Stoke.
