Crystal Palace looking at moves for young Dutch duo

Crystal Palace could be about to raid the Eredivisie, with two players on their transfer wishlist currently plying their trade in Holland’s top league.

Jerdy Schouten and Thomas Ouwejan are both of interest to boss Roy Hodgson, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Schouten, 22, is currently at Excelsior and plays as a central midfielder, whilst Ouwejan, also 22, is a left-back at AZ Alkmaar.

Schouten has just completed his debut season with Excelsior and featured in all but three of his team’s 38 games in 2018/19, but it ended in disappointment from him as the Rotterdam based club were relegated.

He was one of the few positives to come out of their campaign though, receiving praise for his reading of the game and ability to get his side on the front foot from defensive midfield.

Meanwhile, Ouwejan was a stand-out player for AZ Alkmaar, who finished fourth, recording two goals and seven assists, further impressing Palace scouts who are said to have had their eye on the defender for some time now.

With Pape Souare departing Selhurst Park this summer, Ouwejan would make a fine replacement for him and would also challenge Patrick van Aanholt and Jeffrey Schlupp for a starting berth.

The report says no bids have yet been made for either of the pair, but the London club look set to make their move for the players in the coming weeks.
