Crystal Palace battled hard but were denied a win by 10-man Wolves, who scored a last-minute equaliser to finish the game 1-1.
The Eagles took the lead right at the start of the second half through an own goal from Leander Dendoncker. Then they had a man’s advantage when Romain Saiss was sent off 17 minutes from time.
But Diogo Jota popped up with a 95th minute equaliser to break the hearts of Palace supporters at Selhurst Park.
On balance of play, Wolves probably deserved something from this game as they were very good in the first half.
They were unlucky to trail very early into the second half when a Joel Ward shot clearly deflected off Dendoncker to go into the back of the net.
Saiss made a needless challenge on Wilfried Zaha to get his marching orders in the 73rd minute. But, Jota equalised in the 95th minute after Palace failed to clear their lines.
Here’s how we rated the Crystal Palace players after this game:
Vicente Guaita - 8
Made a couple of very good saves to keep his sheet clean. But he couldn’t have done much to save the goal at the end.
Joel Ward - 7
Had a mixed bag where he went forward to support attacks but was lacklustre on the ball.
It was his shot that deflected into the net, however, he slipped at the vital moment to allow Jota to equalise.
Gary Cahill - 9
Cahill was at his usual self today where he was putting his body on the line and dominated the back line with some authority.
Mamadou Sakho - 7
Apart from a couple of hairy moments, Sakho was solid at the back along side Cahill and made a crucial block to deny Jota once.
Patrick van Aanholt - 7
The left-back stood up against Adama Traore and did well. He bombed forward and helped the attacks as well.
Luka Milivojevic - 7
The captain was a steady presence in midfield without doing much wrong.
Cheikhou Kouyate - 6
It wasn’t Kouyate’s best game as he gave the ball away few times and didn’t look sharp enough.
James McArthur - 7
Returned to the starting XI and played well in midfield. Made one good block and assisted the Ward/Dendoncker goal. Subbed off later on.
Jeff Schlupp - 4
Played on the left wing and was wasteful most of the time. Missed one great opportunity to win the game later on as well.
Wilfried Zaha - 8
The Ivory Coast international showed some great skills today and was always a threat to the Wolves defence.
Jordan Ayew - 7
Ayew worked hard for the team without much reward. Didn’t have many sights on goal which was the disappointing thing from the team’s point of view. Subbed off in the second half.
(SUB) Christian Benteke - 3
Had a chance to make it 2-0 minutes after coming on but he had his effort easily saved by Rui Patricio.
(SUB) James McCarthy - 5
Came on in the final few minutes of the game and made some good tackles.
