Ollie Watkins reveals Palace bid “turned his head” – Could he be moving to the Eagles despite new deal?

Brentford’s Ollie Watkins has admitted that a bid from Crystal Palace over the summer turned his head, but also said that he is happy to stay at the Bees for the time being.

The forward has been on fire so far this season, and has netted seven goals in 11 appearances so far for Brentford.

However, speaking to West London Sport, Watkins revealed that his head was turned over the summer thanks to a £11 million bid from the Eagles.

When there’s speculation everyone’s head gets turned but it’s normal.

I’m really happy here now and I think it really shows with the form I’m in and long may that continue. I’m feeling good.

How have the club helped me refocus? For a start by giving me a new contract. They didn’t need to do that. That helps.

Sheffield United are now also reportedly interested in a move for the Championship forward.

Watkins is a superb player, and based of several other talents who adapted quickly to the top flight, he could be a real asset for Palace.

However, his new deal could limit any moves to the Eagles.

£11 million would be good value, but would Brentford budge after selling another key player in Neal Maupay to Brighton during the final days of the window?

I very much doubt it now.

matchday.
